Over the last 2 months most of our phone calls have been regarding losing weight or putting it on. That is - regarding the use of Grapefruit essential oil to help assist weight loss (let me know if you didn’t get last month’s newsletter with details on this) or calls regarding pregnancy and/or birthing. So this month we feature a new product and discuss some common pregnancy ailments. The below chart can be cut out and kept for future reference.
Dolphin Clinic Birthing Essentials kit: This kit contains: Jasmine Massage Oil 15ml, Clary Sage Massage Oil 15mls, and Lavender Essential Oil 10mls. These are the three most common oils used during labour, all contained in a simple kit woman can take to the hospital with them. See notes below for uses during birth.
Pregnancy Ailments:
Constipation: Add 30 drops Patchouli to 30mls carrier oil and rub over the abdomen in a clockwise direction. Start at the lower right hand side, by the groin, and rub right up to beneath the breasts, across and down the other side.
Exhaustion: Use this mixture as a body or bath oil – Lavender* 10 drops, Grapefruit 10 drops, Chamomile* 8 drops – into 30mls carrier oil.
Haemorrhoids & Varicose Veins: To help prevent; use 15 drops Lavender*, 5 drops Lemon and/or Frankincense* into 30mls carrier oil. Gently massage the legs in an up-ward motion. Also use in a foot bath/bowl (2-3 drops of each into a bowl).
Indigestion: 30 drops of Cardomon essential oil to 30mls carrier oil. Rub over the abdomen and around the rib cage. Use only once a day.
Leg Cramps: Lavender* 10 drops, Ginger 3 drops – place in a bowl of hot water and soak your feet. Can also be used as a massage blend (add to 20mls carrier oil).
Morning Sickness: A bowl of boiling water with 4-6 drops of Spearmint oil, placed on the floor by your bed overnight, will help keep the stomach calm. Use for 3 consecutive nights and then stop – symptoms should have eased significantly. If required repeat again in 1 week for 3 nights.
Nausea: Fill a bowl with boiling water and add 2 drops of Ginger per 1 litre of water - cover your head with a towel and inhale for five minutes with your eyes closed.
Odema: Always consult your Midwife or Doctor if you have swelling. Rub this mixture over your ankles and legs (working in that direction), the fingers and arms (in that direction) and especially on the back. Don’t use on the abdomen and only use once a day for 10 days. Ginger 3 drops, Pine* 2 drops, Lavender* 5 drops – into 30mls carrier oil.
Stretchmarks: Dolphin Clinic Stretchmark Prevention oil*. Use as an all over body massage oil. Apply twice daily where stretchmarks may occur, targeting lower & upper abdomen, breasts & buttocks.
BIRTHING: use ‘Dolphin Clinic Birthing Essentials’ kit.
Contractions/Induce labour: To help strengthen contractions and/or help bring on labour use Jasmine Massage Oil. Not to be used before your due date. Rub onto the abdomen and/or lower back, or use in the bath (not during a water birth – you don’t want the oils to come into direct contact with the baby).
Pain: To help ease pain use Clary Sage massage oil. Again rubbed onto the abdomen and/or lower back.
Nausea: Lavender. In a vaporiser, compress, or massage blend.
Relaxation: Lavender. In a vaporiser, compress, or massage blend.
New born baby: Lavender in vaporiser. Try to make the environment the baby comes into as soothing as possible.
*Not to be used in first trimester

Did you know – Dutch criminals of the most dreadful kind are being pacified through the use of Orange essential oil. A study has found that criminals in the Netherlands become less aggressive when exposed to Orange. The oil is diffused through the cell air vents. Surely if it can calm the worst criminals it could help calm our over active children!
